 Scott Delmont McDonald 1951 ~ 2009 Our dear husband and father, Scott Delmont McDonald, 58, passed into immortality on June 1, 2009, in Salt Lake City, Utah after a vicious battle with cancer.Scott was born May 26, 1951 in Ogden, Utah to Alice Ellen Bott McDonald and Joseph Delmont McDonald. He lived his childhood in Ogden, one he described as the best of childhoods with the best of parents in the best of neighborhoods in a golden age. Scott loved his service as an LDS missionary to the Alabama-Florida area from 1970 to 1972, falling in love with the people he met and the Southern culture. Later years found him often recalling memories from that time of his life. He went on to graduate from Weber State as top marketing graduate in 1974. He married Julie Newman on June 16, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised five wonderful children. He was an active, vital member of the LDS church throughout his life, serving diligently in many capacities: as scoutmaster for one of the church's largest troops, member of a bishopric, high councilman, and high priest group leader. His favorite calling, however, was that of home teacher. He loved involving himself in the lives of those he served. Scott loved his work in commercial real estate, and had a genuine passion for making deals. He was named top commercial realtor in the Salt Lake area in 1984, and in 2003 was named "#1 Producer Internationally for Coldwell Banker Commercial NRT." He was well known in the industry and highly regarded for his business acumen and integrity. Scott was a cheerful, fun-loving, extremely gregarious person. His parents said he didn't start talking until the age of three, but then he never quit. He had a keen intellect and love of learning, and he could converse at length with anyone due to his wealth of knowledge in a wide variety of subjects. He was competent and capable, with an incredible sense of humor which invariably made him the life of the party. He accepted people without trying to change them, and had a particular talent for getting along well with others. He could always make you laugh. "Avid" does not begin to describe Scott's love of sports. Among his passions were golf, tennis, and basketball. He loved watching the Utah Jazz, New York Yankees, BYU sports, and anything else on ESPN. He imparted that passion to his four sons. He also loved music, movies, theater, and history. He loved learning and talking about the history of America and of the LDS Church. One of his greatest legacies will be the importance he placed on recording his personal life history, a project he completed prior to his passing. Despite all his talents and hobbies, spending time with his friends and family always came first. Scott will be greatly missed by his survivors: wife, Julie; children Gregory, Robert (Andrea), Nathan (Dana), Jennifer, and Ryan; sisters Joan and Carol, and brother Brent. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to send a special thanks to the many medical personnel who helped Scott in his challenges over the last few years. They loved him, and he cared deeply for them in return. Viewings will be held on Thursday, June 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy, Utah, and on Friday, June 5 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center, 1500 East Creek Road in Sandy, Utah. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cottonwood Creek Stake Center, 1500 East Creek Road in Sandy, Utah. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy, Utah.
